It's been much too long but I have to say for the last two weeks I have successfully "done it". I finished up quite a few projects which I am quite proud of.
I managed to get all the prom garters out the door in plenty of time for the dances. Unfortunately I neglected to take pictures of any of them! :( If you are interested in seeing some of my others I do have a Facebook page. I haven't done much with it lately, I have a pretty good stream of customers (mostly high school dances) and lots of word of mouth. Most of my contacts are through messages. I am pretty proud of my garters, I really have enjoyed this venture! I am looking forward to summer weddings, although I do enjoy working with the high school girls. Here is a link to my page if you are interested in taking a peek;
I also managed to finish all three gifts I was making for my grandchildren with time to spare. Yep, I do procrastinate and work well under pressure. I think I need this clock! Actually I think I may have this clock...
The three gifts for my grand children are sewn with lots of love. I have a 7 year old Grandson who have become a huge Batman fan. I happened across some Batman fabric and knew I had to make him something with it. I bought a yard without any plan but decided on a pillow. I can't just make a plain pillow, I had to "fancy it up" some. But how do you do that for a seven year old boy - it wasn't easy but I think I got it. My biggest challenge was to find fabric that coordinated and didn't have flowers or other frilly girly stuff on it. Fortunately I had my husband along and his eye caught exactly what was needed!
I design in my mind and spend a few nights laying in bed thinking "OK, now I have the fabric, how am I going to put it together?" I decided on quilting it with a border of the black and white and a insert of the blue. The main fabric is covered with stippling and big swirls on the border. I am working on improving my free motion quilting skills, what a perfect project for this. Pretty sure I am going to be the best Grammy ever!
Last but not least was my absolutely adorable and perfect in every way two and a half year old grand daughter. She has a baby doll that she is never far from so I wanted to do something for her baby. I found the cutest Baby Doll Pouch Blanket on the The Cottage Mama blog. When I saw it I knew that was what I was going to make for her. All I had was a teddy bear to model for me but you get the idea :)
Phew, I think that is it for now. I still have one more grand daughter, a two and a half month old girl, also adorable and perfect in every way (can you tell I love my grand children!). I chose not to sew her a gift for Valentines Day. I am however, working on a quilt for her that I designed with help from her mom. It isn't quite done yet. That I will share another day, hopefully sooner rather than later!
Have a great weekend!
